Valerie Hermans was born in Nevers in 1959 and lives in the south of France in Bourgogne, near Cluny, and discovered ceramics at the age of 12. She began by modelling the clay in her garden, and eventually started making bowls, small vases - containers, always. She discovered plants and nature, ironically, after her studies at the National Superior School of Applied Arts, at the feet of Ung-No-Lee, a master of calligraphy and Chinese painting. Ten years of ink and brush, the careful observation of shapes, of the balance between spaces and lines have allowed her to develop a unique style within the Song and Koryo traditions.

Herman’s art is exhibited in galleries throughout France and the world.
